Game #3 Wrap-Up

Bucs Team Parents

We played a terrific and hard fought game on Sunday!!!
The outcome was maybe not what we were expecting, but the kids played hard, and maintained their good sportsmanship all game long
- Fantastic job to everyone

Game Result:
Bucs: 0
Giants: 39

What we can work on

Staying focused:
As a team, we had a little trouble this week staying focused both in our pre-game practice and during the game. Most of our opponent's scores came on plays where our defense just seemed to be simply not engaged for the start of the play. Picture week is always a little more difficult on the kids, because we are at the field longer, and they have a little more pent up energy after sitting still for pictures. But we have a great group of kids, and we really haven't had any issues staying focused before.
- And now that pictures are done, we don't expect any issues for the remainder of the season.

Real vs. Fake RB's and QB x RB exchange
We struggled again this week remembering who takes the hand-off (and who is a fake), and getting a clean QB x RB exchange.
- I'm going to re-evaluate our playbook, and see if we can simplify down our plays and formations
- Also, I'm going to create some new formations that will hopefully create more confusion w/ the defense (and open up some space for our RB's to run)

RB's running forward (and in the direction of the play)
We're also still having some issues getting the RB's going in the intended direction of the play (and running forward not backward).
- I'm hoping to modify our play set up's which will give the kids more direction as to where to take the ball (and not turning direction when they take it)

But, we want to stress that the kids played extremely well in this game, and we were very proud of every one of our players.
- Fantastic job to everybody

Follow-Up Items:

No games for Memorial Weekend
We have a bye week for the memorial day weekend (no games this Sunday).
Please enjoy the nice weather we are expecting, and come back healthy and ready to go for the 6/1 game.

End of season celebration
We wanted to start gathering ideas for the end of season celebration. As parents and coaches it's important to recognize the kids for all their hard work, dedication, and accomplishments through the season. And we'll have a trophy and team participation award to pass out to every kid. What we do can be as simple as a quick team gathering on the side of the field or it can be a separate more traditional picnic style team party w/ food and drinks (I personally have done both, and prefer the picnic style team party for the kids). But we wanted to gather the interest and availability from the team parents as well. Please let us know by responding on this e-mail w/ either with a 1) Quick team gathering or 2) Picnic style team party. Once we have the level of activity decided, we can then start formalizing the schedule and items needed.

That should be it for now.
- Let us know if you have any questions / concerns.

Sincerely,
James Neal
